Cupcakes and Rice Cakes

One of our first stops after my sister came to town was G-town Cupcakes. We'd heard great things about them and couldn't wait to sink our teeth into them. My sister had just visited a Sprinkles in CA within a week of coming out (that way she could compare them). Well after waiting 20mins in a line, being shuffled through a tiny 4x4 square of store space and being rudely helped by an employee we were ready for divineness. Unfortunately all we got were OK cupcakes with a disgusting cream cheese frosting that started to melt off of them before we could even cross the street to go sit and eat them. I have yet to taste Sprinkles, but I would not recommend Georgetown Cupcake to anyone. They aren't that great. I think I could make a cupcake that tasted just as good and has better frosting. It's all hype! So if you live in the area, don't waste your time or money.
Sophia did not waste her appetite on them. She chose rice cakes instead and after Bree devoured her cupcake decided to help Sophia finish up her rice cake.
P.S.
My sister agrees with me and thinks Sprinkles is still the best!

Sisters and cousins

The weekend Stephanie came to visit we stopped by the National Cathedral. They were closing early that day because of Easter preparations and so we only spent like 10mins inside before we were kicked out. Sophia and Bree enjoyed the Children's chapel and all the statues. It was hard to keep Sophia from trying to climb up on everything. Thank goodness it was a beautiful day because after our short visit inside we were able to wonder the grounds and enjoy the beautiful garden. It's a good thing we decided to leave when we did or I would have had a parking ticket. We walked up to our car with a police man standing in front of it beginning to write. I told him this was my car and I was going to move it right away. He said no problem and drove away. It was a close one.

Sophia continues to be obsessed with shoes (I can't blame her I love shoes!)

White House Easter Egg Roll- 2009

Monday I'm partying on the White House lawn and 2 days later I'm protesting in front of it. A little ironic I know.

Disclaimer: I feel very blessed to have been one of the lucky ones to obtain tickets to the White House Easter Egg Roll this year. I know there were many families that tried just as hard as I did and did not prevail. With this being said, I give you my account:

This year's egg roll was a little different and a little the same. I again had an afternoon time which means the good entertainment is gone and so is the President. The activities were the same and there is really nothing special about them accept that you are doing them on the White House lawn. Last year we showed up early as requested on our tickets and hung out on the ellipse that had an array of activities for those waiting and those that did not have tickets. When our time was called we lined up and in we went. Very short process. This year was very different. We waited 90 mins to get in and did not even get in on time. There was one band playing to keep us entertained that's it. After getting through security. They just kept us in a big mass. No lining up and it was very disorganized. They kept telling us to move around and it didn't make a difference. It was a lot more crowed this year. (They gave out more tickets this year.) They went a little skimpy on the party bags this year. All we got was the wooden egg and a commemorative ticket. Last year's was filled with lots of fun goodies.

We did have a good time though and Sophia loved doing the Easter Egg Roll (although she thought is was more of carry). She fell in love with all of the PBS characters and didn't want to leave them. They were like giant stuffed animals to her. At home she is constantly carrying around a doll or teddy so she really was in heaven. Then there was the giant egg chair that she could have spent all afternoon in. I enjoyed just being close to the White house and taking photos. It was an afternoon filled of memories.

Easter Sunday

This last weekend my sister Stephanie and her family came for a visit. We had so much fun together and so did our girls. The cousins played so well together non-stop. We think the hubbies had some kind of bromance going on also, but we didn't ask.

Our weekend was jam packed with sightseeing, museums, cupcake taste testing for reviews, Easter baskets, hunts, and dinner with friends, and lastly the White House Easter Egg Roll.

I'm starting with Easter Sunday. A little out of order, but I really liked a lot of these photos. The girls looked adorable with there matching dresses (thanks Steph) and the weather couldn't have been more beautiful.

Tax Day Tea Party- The beginning of a Movement

Sophia and I braved the elements today with hundreds of others in Layafette Park across from the White House. Why would we gather in such awful weather? To protest: taxes, bailouts, and a growing government. Everyone out there at the park today must feel as strongly as I do against these things because standing in puddles and having your jeans soaked to your knees is the worst! Many people stopped to say they liked my signs and asked if they could take my picture. (They are not my original quotes, I printed them off of the internet.) Some older protesters also told me how proud they were to see me out with my daughter. I made friends with another young Mom who was there with her little six month old and more people stopped to snap photos of us. I guess they were impressed we were out in the rain and cold with our little ones. It's a great feeling to know you are not alone in a region of the country with a high population of liberals. We can't wait for the next one! Sophia and I will be there. Bottom sign: " You are not entitled to what I have earned."

Sophia was an angel and slept through most of it.

Hightlight of the day: Hearing Laura Ingraham speak and then snapping her photo as she left.

Some of the signs

Some of the protesters moved in front of the White House. Shortly after I left I heard some left winged group tossed a package of tea over the White House fence and everyone had to clear out untill they confirmed it was not a bomb.
