Snowed in = Sugar Cookies

Yes, there is a cookie under that pile of snowflake sprinkles.

The weekend we were snowed in we made Sugar cookies. I don't know what Sophia liked more, punching out the shapes or decorating the cookies.

It was a White Christmas

The weekend before Christmas the DC metro was blanketed with around 2 feet of snow. It remained very cold for the rest of the week leaving the snow on the ground for Christmas. These photos were taken the day of the storm. Not a very fun time to be out in it. Sophia just wanted to be carried in it and did not like to be set down (hence pouty lip photo). The next few days she loved it and asked every morning to go out and play in the snow.

Holiday Magic- US Botanic Gardens

We made our annual trip to see the trains and all the monuments/ buildings made out of organic material at the Botanic Garden. That place is so beautiful and smells amazing. It's a nice retreat on a cold winter morning. I could have stayed all day.

On the walk back to the car Sophia decided she wanted to throw rocks into the water.
You can see the Capitol Christmas tree in the above photo.

Santa's House {Christmas in DC}

Have I said how much I will miss this place? On Saturday we trekked into DC in the snow with our friends Josh and Alyssa to visit Santa's Workshop. We had never been before, but heard nothing but good things about it. It was amazing and all free!

You walk through a little cabin full of letters, lists, and toys in the making

and at the end of course you sit on Santa's lap!

This Santa was so authentic and so nice to the children. Sophia had been talking about seeing Santa and giving him hugs and kisses. So it just took a couple seconds to warm up to him. No tears involved.

The company that sponsored the workshop was filming for an internal movie. They asked if they had permission to film Sophia and I and ask us some questions. They followed us around with a camera and mic. I kinda felt like I was on a reality show (Val and Soph plus Santa)

Did I mention they give you a free 5x7 photo!
All Sophia could talk about for the rest of the day was going to Santa's house and yesterday when our neighbors knocked at the door she said. Santa's coming.
If the weather gets better and we have time we might go again.

The National Tree in front of the White House.

WIth more energy now....

Sophia and I decorated the Christmas tree.
(we did a country theme this year because these are the least breakable ornaments we own, mostly just felt, fabric, and wood)
Despite how many times I've told her to leave them on the tree, she still enjoys taking them off the tree and carrying them around almost like they are little purses.
Last night I caught her feeding a bottle to one of the snowmen.

Can you tell Sophia did this branch?

And one afternoon while Sophia napped I tried my hand at making some homemade bread and to my surprise it turned out. No mixer, no bread maker. Just some ingredients, my hands, and the oven.
