Spring Photos Continued

Sophia dancing around on the mall

Before the Festival

What if every Spring post was of Sophia and blossoms?
I have some very special visitors coming this weekend so I will have something new to blog about very soon. Until then, deal with it.

My daughter is obsessed with shoes....she loves putting them on, taking them off, it doesn't matter where we are or who's shoes they are, she'll play with any

A little over a week ago before the Cherry Blossom Festival began Sophia and head out to see if the blossoms were close to reaching their peak. It was a warm day and we wanted to spend time outdoors. Of course most of the trees hadn't. (They are pretty good at predicting these things.) We lucked out though and found a couple of beautiful trees with hanging blossoms. We then walked over to the FDR where Sophia played a little while I took photos.

More CB fun

We met up with some friends and walked the tidal basin. Sophia's favs were the animals. See below.

Real or stuffed Sophia loved all the animals the same.

Making friends

Sophia can make friends wherever we go. So last week at the Cherry Blossoms that's what she did. This little boy ran up to her while she was sitting in her stroller and pretended to take photos of her with his Mom's camera phone. He then started to run away and Sophia chased after him. When she caught up to him he took some more photos. They played for a few minutes and it was all fun and games until the little boy decided to push Sophia. She didn't fall, but started to whimper as it scared her. The little boy received a mouthful from his mother and then Sophia received an apology from him.

Cherry Blossoms with Andrea

On Monday afternoon Sophia and I had the opportunity to go out with my friend Andrea and her little girl to the Cherry Blossoms. We dressed the girls up for photos and Andrea helped me find some good spots. She taught me a lot about lighting and showed me what good lighting was. I hope I can remember in the future when she's not around to point it out. It's harder than it seems. She also kept Sophia laughing for me while I tried to shoot some photos of her. Andrea is an amazing photographer and if you live in the area and need some photos of your children or family I would highly recommend her. Check out her photo blog and you'll see what I mean. There's also a link there to her main website if your interested in contacting her.
When we weren't shooting we did what all Med-Wives like to do when they get together.... talk about: Med school, match, residency, away rotations, and all the things we have to look forward to 4th year bringing.
Thanks for sharing your talents with me Andrea and making it such a fun afternoon. Aside from the wind we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day.

Thanks for these cute shots Andrea
P.S. Sophia and I have been to the Cherry Blossoms 3 times so there are more photos coming.

I've got a golden ticket....again

To get a coveted White House Easter Egg Roll ticket for 2009 a different kind of camping out was required than last year. This year myself, sister, and friends camped out in front of our computers checking the White House website to see what time they would make the tickets available online. Boy was it hard! The site crashed numerous times. I kept refreshing with my fingers crossed. A couple times I had tickets in my basket only to find out by the time the page came up they were no longer available. I don't know how I got so lucky. A big THANKS goes out to ALYSSA who called me as soon as the tickets became available twice today, making it possible for not only Sophia and I to go, but also my sister from CA and her family and some friends that were traveling on the road today. We are so excited to go again this year. I think Sophia will enjoy it a little more this year since she's older. White House Easter Egg Roll 2008

My hand at manual

After seeing some of Lindi's photos shot in manual, I was inspired to give it a try. This morning Lindi and I took the girls to the George Mason Memorial and the Jefferson with the sole purpose of playing with our cameras while the girls ran around. They played so well together. Sophia loved following London around whether it was climbing up the steps of the Jefferson or balancing around the garden of the Mason Memorial. The spring colors made beautiful back drops for portraits of our cute little girls.
I'll have to say that shooting in manual was challenging, but not as hard as I always imagined it to be. There is a wonderful little tool called the light meter to help you find your exposure so you are never guessing. It's genius. Now that the weather is warming up we're going out weekly with the girls and our Nikons :)
